What is an Orthopedic Physical Therapist?

Orthopedic Physical Therapists diagnose, manage and treat disorders and injuries of the
musculoskeletal system as well as rehabilitate patients post orthopedic surgery. Orthopedic
therapists are trained in the treatment of post operative joints, sports injuries, arthritis, back
pain and neck pain. In the orthopedic setting, therapists use joint mobilization, manipulation,
strength training, core stabilization routines and different modalities (electric stimulation,
ultrasound, hot packs, cold packs) to expedite recovery and improve overall well being. All
treatments are geared toward improving overall functional mobility and improve quality of life.
Common Injuries seen by Orthopedic Physical Therapists inclulde Tennis Elbow, Rotator Cuff
Issues, Frozen Shoulder, Herniated Disc (back or neck), Patella-femoral syndrome, ankle
sprains, Plantarfasciitis/heel spur, Bursitis (Hip, Knee, Shoulder), Fibromyalgia
